Our Team

Nathan Van Der Steen, a luminary in the world of architecture and design, has left an indelible mark on prestigious projects, showcasing unparalleled talent and a commitment to positive impact.

As a head designer for the Four Seasons Hotel at Watertower Place in Chicago, he transformed spaces into luxurious yet functional environments. His leadership was instrumental in the rebuilding of the former Florida White House of President Nixon, demonstrating historical sensitivity an contemporary innovation.

Beyond these grand endeavors, Nathan’s portfolio extends to private wineries, showcasing his ability to harmonize architectural aesthetics with the unique demands of wine production, waterfowl land reclamation, endangered fish protection, invasive plant species removal and floodplain erosion mitigation design. His visionary approach extends to social impact initiatives, pioneering a program providing affordable housing to veterans, first responders, seniors, and those with physical, mental, or neurodivergent challenges.

In the realm of mental health innovation, Nathan introduced a wearable litmus test. This revolutionary yet simple tool alerts families and caregivers to the daily mental health status of their loved ones, by providing real-time insights into emotional well-being, seeks to bridge gaps in communication and diminish the haunting “if only I had known” sentiments, fostering a more compassionate and connected approach to mental health care. Nathan’s multifaceted contributions underscore his commitment to shaping physical spaces and prioritizing the well-being of individuals and communities.

Nathan’s passion for design goes beyond conventional boundaries, evident in projects for a private children’s respiratory hospital, creating sanctuaries for terminal children. His innovative designs include a garden, chapel, and aquarium, featuring outdoor oxygen stations. These stations allow patients to be brought outdoors while in their beds or wheelchairs, enabling them to experience fresh air, sunshine, rain, snow, and the beautiful sights and sounds of nature. Nathan studied Interior Design, architecture as well as fine arts at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, historic preservation, restoration and nonverbal communication at American Intercontinental University London, business courses from the LDS Business College. Nathan is not only an accomplished Designer but also a talented artist.

His work extends to charitable causes, frequently donating his art for auction or raffles to support community organizations. Through his holistic approach to design and artistry, Nathan Van Der Steen continues to inspire and uplift, leaving an enduring impact on both aesthetic and humanitarian aspects of the spaces he helps create.

This Spring Nathan and his work at Turn Together Foundation will be featured in a grant writing class at Weber State University where the students will learn to write grants specifically for Turn Together Foundation to help Support the Community.
